The Tesla Racing Wheel concept is a design study that transforms the brand’s philosophy into a physical experience. Inspired by Tesla’s signature use of soft curves, minimalism, and transparency, it explores how these principles shape ergonomics, interface, and visual identity. Beyond form, it examines a CMF strategy where color, material, and finish work together to express Tesla’s unique balance of innovation, purity, and performance.
GOAL
My goal is to design a steering wheel that captures Tesla’s balance of power and precision—pure, purposeful, and engineered for focus.
01 Research
Design Language — Inspired by Tesla
Tesla’s design philosophy centers on purposeful innovation, where every detail serves performance rather than decoration. My research explores how this principle informs product design, uniting form and function through precision, clarity, and deliberate restraint.
Tesla’s brand identity lives in the flowing curves of its vehicles, where smooth, continuous lines suggest motion even at rest. These forms achieve a balance between elegance and aerodynamic purpose, expressing a harmony of efficiency and emotion. Each contour is not decoration but engineered beauty, shaped by performance and precision.
Tesla’s approach to performance design is built on efficiency, where every gram, curve, and component serves a purpose. In its race cars, minimalism is an engineering principle rather than a style choice, removing anything that does not contribute to speed, control, or precision. This pursuit of purity defines Tesla’s visual and functional language, characterized by clean surfaces, continuous lines, and materials chosen for their strength and lightness.

My redesigned Tesla yoke steering wheel features a larger, more ergonomic grip that enhances comfort, control, and precision. Unlike Tesla’s standard yoke, this version includes sculpted contours and thicker hand supports to reduce fatigue and improve leverage during high intensity driving. The open top shape maintains clear visibility while allowing quick and accurate steering inputs, making it ideal for racing where responsiveness and stability matter most. The concept preserves Tesla’s minimalist aesthetic while introducing functional refinement, creating a balance of comfort, performance, and futuristic design.

TESLAS SIGNATURE DESIGN
The Tesla Performance Yoke redefines control by blending race inspired dynamics with human centered comfort. Its sculpted form replaces the traditional circular wheel with a precision engineered arc that enhances visibility and sharpens steering response. The result is an experience that feels less like operating a machine and more like an extension of the body, delivering intuitive, confident, and uncompromising control.
ERGONOMIC GRIP
The grips were enlarged to enhance comfort, control, and endurance. A thicker profile distributes pressure more evenly across the palm and fingers, reducing fatigue and discomfort during long drives or high G maneuvers. Deeper contours provide natural index points for consistent hand placement, allowing quicker micro adjustments and steadier steering through corners. The added mass increases leverage, making inputs feel more precise with less wrist strain, resulting in a calmer and more confident steering experience at any speed.
